If you are arriving into Montevideo, Colonia is a two-hour drive west of the capital. If you are arriving from Buenos Aires, the hydro-foil terminal is located just a few minutes from the historic quarter.
Colonia is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and we recommend a stay of two nights to enjoy and relax in this colonial gem located on the River Plate.
A half day tour to Anchorena Park near the San Juan River. A nature reserve with interesting introduced and native flora and fauna, and a great place from which to experience the Uruguayan countryside.
A full day to experience the city highlights of Colonia del Sacramento with a visit to the Swiss immigrant town of Colonia Suiza (Nueva Helvecia). Part walking and part driving tour, with lunch at a typical restuarant in the historical district.
