Located on the River Plate estuary Montevideo has a distinctly European feel to it with wide avenues and many parks. The historical old town can be explored easily on foot. At the west end of the city is the international port and at the east end sandy beaches, pine forests and posh residential areas extending along the coast.
Rambla Naciones Unidas proudly traverses the entire waterfront and beaches of the city. Highlights of Montevideo include the old city with it’s eighteenth century buildings, the bustling Mercado del Puerto restaurant area and the main commercial avenue: 18 de Julio.
Travel half an hour to Melilla to enjoy a tour of the vineyards and sample fine wines accompanied by local Uruguayan cheeses and foie gras in this lovely, historic winery.
A comprehensive tour of the city of Montevideo – either a half day tour to take in the main city sights, or an extended tour allowing extra time to visit the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of the Gaucho & The Coin, as well as time for a little retail therapy at the city’s largest shopping mall.
A full day tour of beautiful Colonia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a walk through the Historical district, visit the small musuems and the lighthouse, plus many more interesting sites. Take a bus tour along the river and also a brief stop at Colonia Suiza.
Spend the day enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery and architecture of Uruguay’s seaside cities, with lunch and afternoon leisure time to enjoy shopping or relaxing before being taken back to your hotel in Montevideo.
