Located on the northeast of Chubut province 77 km (48 mi) from Puerto Madryn. With elephant seal and sea lion colonies, breeding grounds for the Southern right whales, penguin colonies, dolphins, guanacos, rheas, armadillos and Patagonian hares, the Península Valdés is a spectacular region for wildlife.
Whales can be seen from June to December, particularly interesting with their young during September and October. Orcas can be seen attacking seals in February and March. The sea lion breeding season is from late December to late January but visiting is good up to late April. Elephant seals can be seen all year round, the best time is September and October during the breeding season. Penguin viewing can be carried out between September and March and dolphins can be seen between July and March. Land animals and birds can be seen all year round.
On arrival at Trelew Airport, travel 107 km (66 mi) to Punta Tombo penguin rookery and nature reserve, home to over two million Magellanic penguins and their chicks. This rookery is the largest single colony on the South American subcontinent. You will see guanacos, rheas and Patagonia hares on the way. Overnight in Puerto Madryn.
Today you will go on a full-day tour to the Valdes Peninsula located 77 km (48 mi) from Puerto Madryn. You will enjoy the natural habitat of the elephant seals, sea lions and thousands of sea birds which have made the peninsula their home. Your tour ends with a two night stay at a remote lighthouse hotel, Faro Punta Delgada, which has 27 rooms, a restaurant and a pub. Lunch and dinner are included.
