Bolivia, Peru

Peru and Bolivia is a 13-day journey through the ancient heart of South America. Beginning in Lima, the tour heads south to the dramatic Colca Canyon before reaching Lake Titicaca and crossing into Bolivia to explore the legendary Sun Island and the bustling markets of La Paz. The tour then flies to Cusco for visits to the Sacred Valley, the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo, and the crowning highlight: the breathtaking lost city of Machu Picchu.

Itinerary Details

Day 1

Lima

Arrival in Lima. Reception and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, tour some of Lima’s main colonial sites: The Cathedral, Plaza Mayor, Government, and Archbishop Palaces. Afterwards, drive through Lima’s modern residential areas: San Isidro with its olive grove, golf course, and “Huaca Huallamarca”; and Miraflores with its central park, “Parque del Amor”, and ocean views.

Day 2

Lima/Arequipa

Buffet breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Flight to Arequipa.

Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, tour of the White City, including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, La Compañía Church and the famous Monastery of Santa Catalina. Then, visit its picturesque surroundings.

Day 3

Arequipa/Colca Canyon

Buffet breakfast. Early in the morning departure by regular bus (Conresa) or private transfer from Arequipa to Colca Valley. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. Go through the National Reserve of Aguada Blanca, where vicuñas and possibly guanacos can be seen. Lunch included. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel located in Colca.

Day 4

Colca Canyon

Buffet breakfast. Drive to the Cruz del Cóndor observation point early in the morning. Continue to Chivay, visiting the towns of Maca and Yanque along the way. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5

Colca Canyon/Puno

Buffet breakfast. Departure to Chivay. Box lunch included. Arrival in Chivay and then departure by regular tourist bus (4M) or private transfer from Colca to Puno. This scenic trip takes around 6 hours, making a stop along the way at a lookout over the Lagunillas, small beautiful lagoons that are home to Andean flamingos. Arrival at Puno bus station and transfer to the hotel.

Day 6

Puno/Uros/Taquile/Puno

Buffet breakfast. Full-day boat excursion to Taquile, an island located 38 km (24 mi) from Puno. On the way, visit the floating totora islands of the Uro Indians, ancient inhabitants of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. The Taquile Island, inhabited by 2,000 Quechua-speaking indians, is considered a wonderful place. World famous hand weavings and an ancient communal way of life will be admired. Lunch included.

Day 7

Puno/Copacabana, Bolivia/La Paz

Buffet breakfast. Early land transfer to Copacabana, Bolivia, to visit the Sanctuary. Then, board the Catamaran cruise ship and sail to Sun Island, the legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire. Upon arrival to the island, visit an Inca garden, stairs and fountain. Then, continue to the Inti Wata Cultural Complex, the largest private tourist attraction in Bolivia; the tour of the cultural complex includes visits to the Ekako Underground Museum, the traditional medicine and Titicaca Reed Shipbuilders display centers, the Pachamama agricultural Inca terraces, a handicraft center and the Intica lounge. The complex also offers a unique experience aboard a traditional Titicaca sailing vessel for a panoramic visit to the Pilkokaina Inca Palace. Afterwards, board the catamaran cruise ship again to sail to the Chua Harbor while enjoying a lunch buffet. Bus trip to the hotel in La Paz.

Day 8

La Paz

Buffet breakfast. Morning, city tour including: the witchdoctor market, San Francisco church, the typical handicrafts of the Sagarnaga street and Plaza Murillo – where the Cathedral, Government Palace and the National Congress are located. Then, visit the famous Jaen street where interesting museums are clustered together, and the site where a replica of the semi-underground temple of the Tiwanaku culture can be admired. The tour continues to the residential areas and ends with a visit to the famous Valley of the Moon, a natural wonder. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 9

La Paz/Cusco, Peru

Buffet breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, tour of the city including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Church (Koricancha), followed by a visit of the surrounding ruins of Puka Pukara, Kenko, Tampu Machay, and the renowned fortress and religious site of Sacsayhuaman, famous for its cosmic energy.

Day 10

Cusco/Pisac/Ollantaytambo/Urubamba

Buffet breakfast. Drive up and hike to the splendid Inca ruins of Pisac at 3,250 m (10,654 ft) above sea level, a large complex of religious temples, housing areas, agricultural terraces, cliff-hanging paths and astronomic observatories. Afterwards, visit the village of Pisac to shop at the colorful Indian market. Lunch at Tunupa del Valle Restaurant in Urubamba, followed by a tour of the town and fortress of Ollantaytambo, the last living Inca town. Accommodation at the hotel located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 11

Urubamba/Ollantaytambo/Machu Picchu

Buffet breakfast. Transfer to Ollantaytambo’s station. A scenic, 1 hour 30 minute train trip through the Urubamba Valley, followed by a 30-minute bus ride up to the breathtaking Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Guided tour through the ruins. After lunch at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, free afternoon to explore the ruins. Dinner and overnight at the town of Machu Picchu (located at the base of the mountain).

Day 12

Machu Picchu/Poroy/Cusco

Buffet breakfast. Free morning to visit and enjoy the ancient citadel on your own. In the afternoon, return to Cusco by train (Poroy station) and transfer to the hotel.

Day 13

Departure from Cusco

Buffet breakfast. Transfer to the airport for your departing flight.

You can extend your stay in Peru beyond Machu Picchu and head to the Peruvian Amazon at Reserva Amazónica Inkaterra.
